US reopens embassy in Kyiv after three-month closure

The United States reopened its embassy in Kyiv after three months, it was closed as Russia invaded Ukraine.
“Today we are officially resuming operations at the US Embassy in Kyiv,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
“The Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia’s unconscionable invasion, and, as a result, the Stars and Stripes are flying over the Embassy once again,” Blinken said.
“We stand proudly with, and continue to support, the government and people of Ukraine as they defend their country from the Kremlin’s brutal war of aggression.”
Blinken announced the return of US diplomats to Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv in late April, and they began making a day visit to Lviv.
US Secretary of State did not mention how many American diplomats will be based in the embassy. To keep the returning US diplomats, secure, he said “we have put forward additional measures to increase the safety of our colleagues and have enhanced our security measures and protocols.”
The US is the most recent Western country to reopen diplomatic relations with Kyiv.
