Russia has fired senior officers over combat failures, UK says

Lt. Gen. Serhiy Kisel's forces failed to conquer Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, said the MoD. Vice-Admiral Igor Osipov, who led the Black Sea Fleet until its flagship, the Moskva, was lost in April, was also suspended.
“Russian Chief of the General Staff Valeriy Gerasimov likely remains in post, but it is unclear whether he retains the confidence of President Putin,” the ministry said in a tweet.
According to the UK defense ministry, a culture of cover-ups and scapegoating is believed to exist in Russia's military and security system.
“Many officials involved in the invasion of Ukraine will likely be increasingly distracted by efforts to avoid personal culpability for Russia’s operational setbacks, the ministry said, adding this would likely place a further strain on Russia’s centralized command model.
“It will be difficult for Russia to regain the initiative under these conditions,” the ministry said in the report.
