President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the United States for approving a $40 billion aid package for Ukraine.
“I praise the 🇺🇸 Senate's approval of the Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022,” Zelenskyy said in a tweet. “$ 40 billion is a significant 🇺🇸 contribution to the restoration of peace and security in Ukraine, Europe, and the world.”
The bill is now passed to the White House for President Joe Biden to turn into a law, bringing the aid from the US to Ukraine to almost $54 billion.
The Senate voted 86-11 in favor of the military and economic aid package, with all the Democrats and most of the Republicans agreeing to help Ukraine. The 11 Republicans who voted against the package cited long-term investment in a foreign war.
