The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved up by 264.36 points, or 0.8%, to close at 33,180.14. The S&P 500 rose 0.95% to 4,160.68, and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.94% to 12,175.23.
Tuesday’s gains come despite the fall in retail stocks after Target (NYSE: TGT) announced its plans to work down excess inventory and lowered its guidance from last month. Its shares fell by 2.3%
The 10-year Treasury yield fell back below 3% after it rose 8.2 basis points to 3.037% on Monday.
Shares of Walmart (NYSE: WMT) followed Target lower, sliding 1.2%. while Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) fell 1.4%.
Shares of Kohl’s Corp. (NYSE: KSS) stock jumped 9.5% after reports of the Franchise Group (NYSE: FRG) planning to buy the department store operator for roughly $8 billion, emerged.
Shares of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) gained 1.8% after the company introduced its new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, on Monday.
