New British education minister resigns just after 48 hours

• Donelan announced her resignation, saying that there is ‘no way’ the PM can continue in office

Michelle Donelan, the British education minister, resigned from the cabinet on Thursday less than 48 hours after being appointed.

UK’s Prime Minster Boris Johnson offered her the role as a wanting attempt to shore up his cabinet following a major resignation of ministers.

But, soon after, she announced her resignation, stating that there is "no way" the Prime Minister can continue in office.

“I see no way that you can continue in post, but without a formal mechanism to remove you it seems that the only way that this is only possible is for those of us who remain in Cabinet to force your hand, Donelan wrote in a resignation letter.

“You have put us in an impossible situation. I am deeply saddened that it has come to this, but as someone who values integrity above all else, I have no choice.

Donelan was appointed when Nadhim Zahawi was promoted to Chancellor following the departure of Rishi Sunak. Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, who was appointed on Tuesday evening, has requested Prime Minister Boris Johnson to "leave with dignity."

Following a series of scandals, a slew of more than 50 members of the government resigned on Tuesday, claiming they no longer trusted the British leader.

However, Johnson who earlier refused to leave appears to have changed his decision this morning, and his resignation letter has reportedly been drafted.
