The first grain shipment to leave Ukraine since the war has passed inspection in Turkey and will shortly be permitted to continue its route to Tripoli, Lebanon.

“The Joint Inspection Team has completed its inspection activity on board RAZONI,” Turkey’s Defense Ministry said in a tweet on Wednesday. “The ship carrying 27 thousand tons of corn will pass through the Bosphorus to go to Lebanon in a short time.”

The Sierra-Leone flagged Razoni ship left the port of Odesa on Monday, becoming the first cargo ship to leave Ukraine’s ports in months, since the beginning of the war in February.

Russia and Ukraine are both significant worldwide wheat exporters, but Moscow's invasion of Kyiv has sent prices skyrocketing and fueled the global food crisis.

For the last two months, the UN and Turkey have been negotiating an arrangement to restore Ukraine's Black Sea grain exports while also facilitating Russian grain and fertilizer supplies.
