• Russia's defence budget nearly doubled between 2005 and 2018, including investments in various high-end air, land, and marine capabilities
The British military believes Russia's military is now “significantly weaker” after suffering defeats in its attack on Ukraine.
“Russia’s military is now significantly weaker, both materially and conceptually, as a result of its invasion of Ukraine. Recovery from this will be exacerbated by sanctions,” UK Ministry of Defence said on Twitter.
“This will have a lasting impact on Russia’s ability to deploy conventional military force.”
Between 2005 and 2018, Russia's defence budget nearly doubled, including investments in various high-end air, land, and marine capabilities. This was the foundation for the massive military modernization programme New Look.
However, Russia has not been able to conquer Ukraine despite modernising its physical equipment. “Failures both in strategic planning and operational execution have left it unable to translate numerical strength into decisive advantage,” the MoD said in a tweet.
