US and Russia willing to discuss prisoner swaps after Griner's conviction
- Russia's foreign minister says that Moscow is willing to negotiate with Washington via an existing diplomatic channel
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US will "pursue" Russia's proposal to talk about a prisoner swap including imprisoned basketball star Brittney Griner.
“They are prepared to engage through channels we’ve established to do just that”, Blinken said on Griner at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. “And we’ll be pursuing that,” he added.
Russia's foreign minister has said that Moscow is willing to negotiate prisoner swaps with Washington via an existing diplomatic channel established by Putin and US President Joe Biden.
The remarks came after US basketball star Brittney Griner is convicted guilty of drug charges in a Russian court and sentenced to nine years in jail.
