• Antonio Guterres appeals to Russia and Ukraine to work together to establish safe and functional humanitarian corridors
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday, following a meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I have arrived in Ukraine after visiting Moscow. We will continue our work to expand humanitarian support & secure the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones,” Guterres tweeted.
“The sooner this war ends, the better – for the sake of Ukraine, Russia, and the world.”
UN Secretary-General is scheduled to travel to Bucha and Irpin in the Kyiv area, where Russian crimes are reported.
Guterres repeated his appeal for Russia and Ukraine to work together to establish safe and functional humanitarian corridors in the military conflict in Ukraine during the Moscow talks on Tuesday.
In reply, Putin said “Despite the fact that the military operation is ongoing, we still hope that we will be able to reach agreements on the diplomatic track," AFP reported.
Talks had been ongoing in Turkey but had come to a halt following the atrocities in regions near Kyiv.
